Santa Catarina Park is one of the most pleasant places in Funchal, from where you have beautiful panoramas over the bay of the Madeiran capital.
The Park of Santa Catarina is located in the center of Madeira's capital, close to the central square of Avenida Arriaga. It is one of the nicest parks in Funchal.
What is there to see in Santa Catarina Park?
This space is large and has a playground, a snack bar, a small lake, and has beautiful vegetation. It is a romantic and quiet place where one can enjoy amazing panoramic views.
Inside the park, you will find a chapel dedicated to Santa Catarina, ordered to be built in wood in 1425, by Mrs. Constança, wife of the Portuguese navigator João Gonçalves Zarco. In the 17th century, the chapel was rebuilt in stone, which gives it a lyrical air.
The Park presents many pedestrian walks, an immense variety of flora species from all over the world, and also a rich fauna, with ducks, swans, fishes, and many birds.
