Black scabbardfish is a very common delicacy in the Madeira archipelago. It lives in the Atlantic Ocean at depths ranging between 200 and 1700 meters. In Madeira, one of the main places where it is very common for fishermen to dedicate themselves to their catch is in Câmara de Lobos.

The intensive fishing of this species dates back to the 19th century, although there were already references to the capture of this species on the island prior to that.

The capture of this fish is quite economically important and represents 50% of the fishing catches in the region.

6 fresh black swordfish fillets

3 bananas

2 eggs

grated bread

olive oil

chili

mashed potatoes

Recipe:
  • Prepare the mashed potato;
  • Prepare the salad and season;
  • Beat the eggs in a soup plate and prepare another plate with the breadcrumbs;
  • Grease a tray with olive oil, so that it covers the entire space;
  • Pass the pieces of fish through the egg and then the breadcrumbs and place them on the tray;
  • Do the same procedure with the banana and place on the tray;
  • Put oil, salt and pepper in the preparation and bake.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes and salad.
