Câmara de Lobos - It was this traditional fishing village, located just 5 kilometers from Funchal, that inspired Sir Winston Churchill to paint it.
How to get there?
Renting a car to explore the island is a good idea but we also have incredible and carefree tours, such as the Yellow bus or the red bus.
Curiosity about the place:
- The name of this parish comes from the fact that at the time of the discovery of the island loads of sea lions were sighted at that cove that still retains the same configuration.
- This was the first settlement established in Madeira by João Gonçalves Zarco himself, which became a parish in 1430.
- This land of fishermen, whose main specialty is fishing for black scabbard fish.
- The first «Poncha» to appear on the island was the same that is still known today as «à Pescador» in which, initially, it would have been created by the fishermen to keep warm on the cold nights of marine life, in Câmara de Lobos
